We Start With a Great Finish!
Our stain finishes are applied in a five-step color process that combines equalizing stains, toners and hand wiping to achieve depth and color consistency. For paint finishes, a flexible vinyl primer with a tough enamel color coat is used. Paints and stains are finalized with a heat-cured, catalyzed topcoat varnish with UV inhibitors to protect and strengthen the durability of the finish.
Stain
Our stain process enhances the color of the wood and accentuates the natural subtleties of the grain. Stains come in a variety of tones and colors, ranging from light to dark and subdued to rich. |
Paint
Paint is a solid finish that hides all wood grain patterns. In the construction of our painted cabinets, we combine hardwood door frames with medium-density fiberboard center panels to minimize paint cracking at joints during changes in temperature and humidity. |
Fortis Cabinets Finish Process
Sanding – All Finishes: From medium to very fine grit, our sanding process follows a strict sequence to ensure a smooth wood surface that is ready for treatment. Each piece is completed with a vacuum cleaning to remove all dust particles.
Toner – Stain Applications: Each wood component receives two applications of toner to balance the color bring out the beauty of the natural wood and graining.
Wood Conditioner: A wood conditioner is applied to prepare the wood surface for even acceptance of stain or paint.
Hand Sand & Dust Removal: Each piece is then sanded by hand to remove any buildup and restore a smooth surface.
Stain Application: A deep penetrating stain is evenly applied to all surfaces and profiles to emphasize the natural wood grain. All surfaces are then hand-wiped to remove excess.
Paint Flexible Primer Application: A primer spray is applied in two applications to ensure even coverage and a uniform surface bond.
Catalyzed Stain Sealer: All stained components receive two coats of a tough, non-yellowing catalyzed sealer to protect the stain.
Hand Sand – Stain Finishes: Another sanding process is completed to prepare for a final stain finish topcoat and an ultra-smooth finish.
Baked Enamel – Paint Finishes: An enamel paint is evenly applied to all surfaces and then oven-cured for a uniform surface.
Final Finish Top Coat: To complete the finish, a premium, catalyzed topcoat varnish with UV inhibitors is applied to protect the finish from moisture and fading due to natural light.
